Once you have learnt the slapping technique, popping is a much easier technique to learn. All you have to do is curl a finger around the side of the string so it is very slightly underneath it and you kinda grab the bass string with your first or index finger, pull it away from the guitar and let it "snap" back. the string hits the fretboard fairly hard and makes that percussive sound. It is best to be able to use both your fingers then you are able to use your Index finger for the D string and your Middle finger for your G string.
