Learn how to play the acoustic guitar

Lesson 1

Playing the acoustic guitar is very easy, but the problem is that beginners always give up easily and quickly. I was once like you and I even gave up music because I taught it was hard but I came to realize that I have been making the mistake all along. That is why am giving out this lessons to put things right with up-coming acoustic players.

In this first lesson we are going to get acquainted with our guitars and its parts. First I usually start with the body because it looks just like the head of a key and it comprises of the following:

  •          Sound hole, it’s said that the sound hole does not allow sounds to escape .therefore a very well balanced sound depends on the size of the hole which also affects the bass and treble.
  •          Saddle, this is where the strings rest across and this part fits into the bridge.
  •          Bridge, The Bridge which is attached to the body and the strings get pinned into it. The tone depends on the bridge and plastic bridges are horrendous at transmitting sound. Note that the type of wood used for the body influences the sound/ tone of your guitar.
  •          String pegs, are used to hold the strings in the bridge.
  •          The body, the body of an acoustic guitar is the largest section of the guitar which I told you looked like the head of our keys it is below the neck. When a note or chord is played it amplifies the vibration of the strings. And note that Different woods provide different tonal qualities and affect the "voice" of the guitar.
  •          Neck, which is the longest part of the guitar and it connects the body and the head.
  •          Frets, when the string length is shortened by being pressed against a fret the frequency and pitch of the note gets higher.
  •          Fret board, It is a thin, decorative long strip of material, usually wood  materials set into the wooden surface of the instrument using standard inlay techniques. The strings run over the fingerboard, between the nut and bridge.
  •          Nuts, the nut is the piece of material between the fret board and the headstock which the strings are rolled on.
  •           Tuners, They tighten or loosen the strings.
