With #11 in the series, the delicately named "Rosie", the Gibson Custom team were able to get their hands on the best-preserved vintage Les Paul they have ever been fortunate enough to work with. This reproduction is said to be the closest that anyone will ever come to recreating the finish and tone of the 'Holy Grail' 1958 to 1960 Les Paul models. Rosie has only had two owners in her entire life and still retains her original, unfaded dark cherry finish, thanks to being exposed to very little sunlight throughout her lifetime.
As with all 2013 Gibson Custom reissues, Rosie features a hot
hide glued neck joint, historically accurate truss rod assembly, aniline dye on
her back and sides, accurate binding color and a single-layer, Indian rosewood
fingerboard. Add a lightweight aluminum tailpiece alongside a complete package
of historically accurate trim and hardware and the details unfold to form a
guitar that's as close to the original as is humanly possible to craft.
Body: The body of 1959 Les Paul “Rosie” is made from a single piece
of solid, lightweight Grade-A mahogany/maple combination, and is what Les
Pauls are known and loved for, the customary thick, full-bodied tone delivered
by the mahogany, with miles of sustain, neatly clipped by the snappiness of the
maple. Each one was hand selected to accurately emulate the look of the
original.
Neck: The neck is made from solid quarter-sawn mahogany and
carved to the precise ’59 “soft V” profile taken from close measurement of
Rosie herself, topped with a one-piece dark rosewood fingerboard with aged
cellulose parallelogram inlays. The neck is cut to the classic 12" radius,
which is perfectly suited to smooth, effortless string bending. The Cream
Reissue binding blends in with the fret markers perfectly to create a
delightfully comfortable and extremely fast neck. precision.
Pickups
and Electronics: The original PAF humbucking pickups are an
important part of the “burst tone” in any original late-’50s Les Paul, and to
make those loaded into Les Paul “Rosie” as authentic as possible,After spending
countless hours testing the original pickups in Rosie, the Gibson Custom team
designed and built two Custom Buckers to accurately bring to life that
all-important "burst-tone", that is so beloved of the late-'50s Les
Pauls. Each pickup was made with Alnico III magnets, with coils scatter-wound
to accurate specifications and left unpotted.
